OVERVIEW

How do resellers understand, navigate and transform the algorithmic systems that structure their work?

As part of the Atlanta Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Network, I joined Doctoral researcher Sara Milkes Espinosa in the design and facilitation of a participatory immersion guiding online resellers to imagine cyberfeminist futures of algorithm-driven secondhand economies.

Art-Based Workshops

To support this work, I co-designed a month long diary study research study coupled with two thematic workshops. For these I designed lectures and readers about the invisible labor and material resources involved in the development and sustainment of AI-driven technologies. These two workshops took the group of resellers through two main activites:

  1. Exploring how they understood how the algorithms of the platform worked through collective mapping
  2. Imagining how a speculative platform may operate that supports their labor

Secondhand Worker Futures Glossary

This zine serves as a bridge between the worlds of reselling labor, feminist economics, and the evolving dynamics of work in platform-driven economies. By demystifying jargon from reselling, offering feminist perspectives on labor value, and addressing the challenges posed by algorithmic and platform governance, this glossary equips readers with tools to critically engage with their work.

I collected the terms and summarized definitions based on the research study content and was the sole designer and creative director of this zine.
